I sure do miss you, John. It has been 36 years. Almost twice your lifetime. I love you and miss you but we will meet in Valhalla in time and the warriors in our line will all be there. You and Daddy are there and hopefully I will be the last in our line to be warriors. Our family has paid the dues and my son Joshua and his children should not have to.

I love you,
your brother Phillip

"When life no longer breathes its sweet contents into me
When blood no longer rushes through my body, alights my soul
When my heart knows nothing more of my earthly jobs and sorrows
Do not cry for me.

When my face no longer has the color of life in its cheeks
And my hands lie still with no breath to revive them
Do not cry for me.

Cry for me if you must for the grief that you feel
For missing my laughter and seeing my smile
But do not cry for me because God's plan is great and I am but
a small part of it.

Life is too precious and God is too great to hold sorrow another
day because I have been born anew and though I love you more
than I can say I will not have the pain of missing you
I will have the comfort of the hymns of angels
I will be at peace and so should you.

Do not cry for me because death is not the end of your life
nor mine and with every breath you take and with every beat
of your heart I live within you and delight in doing so."

John, we miss you and think of you often. Your nephew, John, asks about you frequently and I try and remember and tell him all the wonderful things I can remember about you.

Rest in peace. You did your job well.

Nancy and John

A Note from The Virtual Wall

SP4 John Finch was assigned to Advisory Team 31 in Phu Loi. He had been in country a only couple of weeks when his road convoy was ambushed. The ARVNs and the advisors left the vehicles and set up a defensive position. With the position about to be overrun, SP4 Finch left his position to return to the jeep and destroy the radio and logs. He was fatally wounded by automatic weapons fire.

SP4 Finch was awarded the Bronze Star with Combat "V" for his actions in the engagement.
