There were about seven of us from from Louisville in our Basic Training Company (E-17-5) at Fort Knox. Ray was one of them. We started late July, early August 1968. It was hot but it was almost in our backyards, so we figured it was a fair trade off. I remember the good times all of us from Louisville had. Being among neighbors made the ordeal a lot more tolerable. What I remember most about Ray was his sense of humor and contagious smile. We had many laughs together.

I was still "in country" when my mom sent me the obituary that Ray had been killed in action. I was devastated and heartbroken. I've never forgotten, nor will I ever forget Ray. I've touched his name on "The Wall" in DC and the Kentucky Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Frankfort Kentucky.

Thank you for your service, dedication, sacrifice and friendship, Ray. YOU'LL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!

Uncle Raymond,

July 4, 2007 was 38th anniversary of your death, and we are getting ready to have a ceremony at Fort Knox in September to dedicate a monument that was in front of your platoon headquarters in Viet Nam that has been brought here and will be a permanent thing there. Dad, Marty, Micheal (our new brother you never met) and I will be there to honor you that day and to meet some of the guys from your platoon. It'll be nice to met guys who knew you. You are and will always be in our thoughts.

Steve
