A Note from The Virtual Wall

On 29 September 1967 elements of 2nd Bn, 327th Infantry and 2nd Bn, 502nd Infantry encircled an NVA unit at Hiep Duc City in Quang Tin Province. Fifteen US soldiers were killed in the ensuing fight:

Note:
Corporal Smith's mortuary record indicates he was assigned to C Company, 1/327 Infantry. In his memorial request, Mr. Hughes indicated C Company, 2/502nd Infantry. The Virtual Wall has done two things: temporarily accepted the mortuary record and submitted a request to the National Archives for a service record extract. On receipt of the extract the memorial (and our database) will be corrected if necessary.
