Raul was raised in Midland, Texas. He attended Midland High School. He was drafted in the Army in January 1968. He completed his training in infantry and began his tour in Vietnam on September 1968. He died from injuries in a non-combat situation. He is remembered by his community, his name is listed on the Midland County Courthouse Memorial and at the Permian Basin Vietnam Veterans' Memorial near the Midland International Airport.
07 Aug 2006 Raul died from injuries when he was mauled by a tiger while he was on a night listening post. He is buried in the Fairview Cemetery in Midland, Texas next to Cecil McKinney, U.S. Army; Phillip Gardner, U.S. Army; and Gary Watson, U.S. Army.
