Back in the 80's I got Edward Brendan Shaw's red MIA/POW bracelet. I would like to return it to his family. If there is anyone that is interested in this item please contact me. To Mr. Shaw's family I am sorry for your loss - and appreciate the sacrifice he made for his country.

I am a Rhode Island native who attended Stadium Elementary School in Edward Shaw's hometown of Cranston. I was fortunate enough to have Mrs. Florence K. Shaw as a reading teacher for the 5th and 6th grades. Mrs. Shaw was Edward Shaw's mom. She was a terrific person and a great teacher as well. She always carried herself with tremendous dignity, class and a cheerful attitude. I am sure her son Edward was just like her. It was an honor to have known her. Rest in peace, Edward Brendan Shaw and his Mom, Florence.

Notes from The Virtual WallSeveral Attack Squadron 165 aircraft were conducting an armed reconnaissance mission south of Vinh when they spotted a number of supply barges in the mouth of the Song Gia Hoi River. During the subsequent attack on the barges, LTJG Edward B. Shaw (flying A-1H BuNo 139693) was hit by antiaircraft fire and went in. LTJG Shaw was not seen to escape his aircraft before impact. That fact, and the failure of search and rescue efforts to locate any sign of him, led to the conclusion that he died in the crash. His remains have not been repatriated. |
