He was a beautiful young man and father who we all loved dearly.

He was my nephew through marriage. I first met him when I started dating his aunt. I think he was about 6 years old at that time.

He was a wonderful boy.

From his uncle.

I am the son of William James Stephenson.

I too was born with his name but as I was a twin and my twin brother died (we were to be named Brett and Bart - Maverick-style), although I was legally William, I was called Brett. I now live in Enniskerry, County Wicklow, Ireland and I think about my dad every day. I was not even 2 when he was killed. I know he is watching over me and my sister and my family. I still maintain his sword from the Pennsylvania Military Academy and have all of his medals and letters as well as some of his uniforms but I would rather have had him alive.

From his son,

Bud and I were married on June 22, 1963, two weeks after he graduated from Pennsylvania Military College in Chester, Pennsylvania. We had identical twin sons one year later (May 30, 1966). Unfortunately, one son was stillborn. On January 2, 1966 when our son was 20 months old, Bud left for Vietnam. While he originally trained as a fixed-wing pilot, he transitioned to helicopters as the need arose. I was pregnant with our second child. His helicopter was shot down on February 19, 1966 and he died of his injuries four days later on February 23, 1966. Our daughter, Kelly, was born 3 months later on May 18, 1966. He was an Eagle Scout, a fine cadet, an exemplary soldier and a man of honor. He made his family and his country proud. He will remain in our hearts as long as we live.

From his wife,
